How To Balance Your Life And Fitness Goals

Hey there!

It feels great to get back on a writing schedule again. The beginning of January brought about two big changes that I’m excited to share with you!

  • I started taking pre-requisite classes that I need for grad school to start my Masters/RD journey. I’ll be applying to schools this fall and plan to start grad school fall 2018. Yes, all the classes I didn’t take in undergrad because I didn’t need it for my advertising degree. I’m currently taking Introduction to Human Nutrition, Chemistry I, and Introduction to Sociology. I’m taking these classes at night three times a week so my schedule is now jam packed with studying/reading, going to class, and working. I’m currently working 5 days a week, including Saturdays, with a marketing firm as a social media consultant for a major social media platform. It’s exciting to know that my work makes a difference to social media, but I obviously want to be doing what I love in the nutrition field instead!
  • I started my own business! A week ago, a decided to take a leap of faith and officially start my own health coaching business with BeachBody. I was having so much fun on my fitness journey with my coach Cherie. I’ve watched her for 3 months and seen her body transformation. Even though we don’t have the same story, it resonated with me. She’s taught me so much about what it means to become fearless about my health and fitness. For accountability purposes, I’m choosing to commit 30 minutes of my day to a BeachBody program because yo girl is BUSY okay? If I can spend 30 minutes online I can definitely keep a commitment like this. I’ve also decided to become a BeachBody coach to help other people get the fitness results they are looking for. I’m really excited to pay it forward and continue learning. I love the accountability of my team and if I can make an extra income working on my fitness with likeminded peeps then I’m in! Interested in joining my team? Email me here.

I’m going to be running fitness groups in the future so if any of you are looking for a new way to get healthy + fit why not join me in my next group? I’ve learned so much that has changed my life only for the better.

As you can see, when new things get introduced in my life, I also slowly watch the other things in my life fall through the cracks. This list includes:

  • Not keeping up with my chores
  • Not keeping up with personal development
  • Not writing on my blog consistently
  • Not being able to cook as much

This sucks! But it’s part of life. We simply can’t do it all! Now, my new goal is to come up with a reliable schedule for next week where I can spread out my responsibilities and feel productive. Right now it’s Saturday morning, almost 9am on the east coast, and I feel like this is the perfect time for me to write on my blog. So, every Saturday, I have a new blog post coming at you!

Now, my topic for today is hopefully relatable. How the heck do I balance life and still have time to crush fitness goals!?

Good, question! I often ask myself this as well, but I believe it all comes down to motivation.

This article does a good job explaining the two types of motivation which are either extrinsic or intrinsic. Intrinsic motivation is far more sustainable and will produce lasting results, whereas extrinsic motivators will only last for a short time in your life. If you want to get something done, you’ve got to like it somehow and you’ve got to enjoy the process. For example, I love writing for my blog, and when I found I didn’t have time anymore I was sad, and often thought about when I would have time again to write. I jumped up on a Saturday morning to write, because I’m intrinsically motivated to do so!

If you are intrinsically motivated by your health and fitness goals, you will find a way to include it in your schedule! I’m intrinsically motivated to eat a balanced and healthy diet because I love how it makes my body feel and all of the things I can accomplish when I fuel my body with the good things it needs. What things about health and fitness make you feel good? Why do you want to be healthier in fit? What’s your story? All of these things will add to your inner drive to hit your fitness goals. If health and fitness is something you want, you have to start prioritizing it.

Now let’s talk about my tips for successfully adding your fitness routine to your schedule.

  1. You are not going to be able to have it all and do it all. You are not a superhuman! Are there things in your life that you find yourself putting a lot of extra energy to? Maybe you are making the subconscious choice to spend 2 hours a day watching TV. You don’t have to cut TV out of your life, but that’s 12 hours a week that we can now manipulate and find time for other things that you’ve been wanting to get done. Do you tend to scroll on Facebook for a good hour a day? That’s 7 hours a week, you can potentially put towards fitness goals!
  2. Let’s be honest, if health and fitness is not your full time job, you most likely are not going to be able to work out every day. Be okay with it and don’t beat yourself up about it. Be authentic with the time you do or don’t have and do what feels right to you. Be more loving towards yourself.
  3. Physicians will tell you that it just takes 30 minutes of physical activity to meet the minimum physical activity requirements. Can you commit to 30 minutes a day? Be honest! If you can workout daily, pick a time of the day that works for you daily. If you can’t workout every day, pick out the days and the time-frame that is going to work for you consistently.
  4. Now that you have a workout schedule it’s time to execute! This is the hardest part because no one is watching you! This is where an accountability group comes in handy because of the extra support and encouragement you have access to while on your fitness journey. Does this sound like a community that you want to be part of? You can request to join this upcoming 30 day health and fitness support group on Facebook.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and that you enjoy everything that comes with a more balanced life.
